We all have to give Ivanka credit where credit is due. She was very active when campaigning for her father and she didn’t just take a backseat when he became the president. Her engagement in her father’s politics has come with it’s pros and cons.
Pros- She’s an official government employee now, with security clearance, an office and all.
Cons- Her fashion brand pretty much failed because of her name being tied to her father’s policies and procedures (Nordstrom’s will call this “sales performance” however)
Pros- She’s the most popular advisor in her father’s administration
Cons- Her approval rating is still under 40%, and it’s about half of that with young women.
In a recent poll conducted by SurveryMonkey, Americans were asked how they felt about President Trump himself and his inner circle (Melania, Ivanka, Jared Kushner, Stephen Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer, and Reince Priebus). Results were pretty steady: for Donald, Melania, and Ivanka their percentages of favorable views were around the high 30’s, everyone else’s ranged from 20-26%.
39% of the surveyed Americans viewed Ivanka favorably. About half of that number is the percentage of 18-34 year old women who view Ivanka favorably. 21% to be exact.
52% of 18-34 year old American women view Ivanka Trump unfavorably. Ivanka is 35 years old, she is a working woman, she is a mother, she is hardworking and brilliant, and she is at least one thing or another that a majority of the women in this group should identify with.
But clearly young women aren’t seeing her as the advocate for working women and mothers that she has branded herself to be.
She has lost touch with her focus on women’s rights since assuming a more active role in the White House and failed to speak up against her father’s policies, which is where she may be losing support. According to a Politico report, Ivanka reached out to Planned Parenthood in the weeks following her father’s inauguration but then sat silent when the president backed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood.
“Anyone who works in this White House is responsible for addressing why women are in the crosshairs of basically every single policy that we’ve seen out of this administration,” says Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, who Ivanka met with earlier this year.
So while Ivanka may be the most popular advisor to the president, she is certainly one of the least popular with young women, especially for being a woman herself.
