On Wednesday, March 29th, Presidential daughter Ivanka Trump announced that she will now be an official government employee after accepting a formal White House position.
In a statement issued by the White House Ivanka said, “I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the president in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House Office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees.”
Ivanka’s official title will be ‘assistant to the president.’ She reportedly dedicated a good amount of time towards structuring her new role, with the assistance of Washington attorney Jamie Gorelick.
Gorelick said Ivanka’s ultimate decision “reflects both her commitment to compliance with federal ethics standards and her openness to opposing point of view.”
Ivanka’s new position has raised a lot of eyebrows in Washington, especially in regards to the conflicts of interest that can come about from the brand she still technically owns, and more importantly, benefits financially from.
