When she moved her family to Washington, many questioned her intentions. Ivanka, however, reassured Americans that she would play no formal role in her father’s administration.
Now, according to an article from Politico posted on March 20th, the first daughter has officially obtained her own office on the second floor of the West Wing. The article explained that Ivanka is also in the process of acquiring security clearance and receiving government issued security devices.
Jamie Gorelick, Ivanka’s attorney, described her role as serving as the president’s “eyes and ears.”
“Having an adult child of the president who is actively engaged in the work of the administration is new ground,” Gorelick explained in an interview on Monday. “Our view is that the conservative approach is for Ivanka to voluntarily comply with the rules that would apply if she were a government employee, even though she is not.”
Some controversy was raised last week, for example, when Ivanka sat next to Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, during her first official visit to the White House during Trump’s presidency.
But people close to Ivanka don’t see anything wrong with the arrangement, noting that she was a senior official at the Trump Organization and was her father’s partner on The Apprentice.
Ivanka has also been involved in discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the advancement of women entrepreneurs.
She also accompanied Trudeau and 120 ambassadors from around the world to the Broadway musical “Come From Away” on March 15 in New York.
